Video of the Week: Perry Leopold’s “Sunday Afternoon in the Garden of Delights”

This is actually the first of two “songs of the weeks.”  I’ve got this little fascination with 70’s folk artists that never made it big, at all. Nick Drake and Perry Leopold are both artists that exhibit a quality of timelessness, and I love it.

Night time…
all the people are sleeping
Night time…
all the clergy is weeping
Lord Eye saw them
on a Sunday afternoon
Heaving apples…
at the sky

Fire…
breathing clouds tell of treason
Father…
are your prayers out of season
In the mourning…
when the Son returns to shine
Heed the warning…
see the light

You say you’re hoping to find
All the love in the world
Waiting to hear the chimes
Ringing in the new world
(of love…)
The new world
(of love…)
But the Sun King
carries out…
His Word…

Come gather ’round you big strong men
I hope you brought your smiles
‘Cause all the things I’m telling you
Were born to drive you wild
THE GARDEN OF DELIGHT IS IN YOUR MIND
And when you plow the soil
and you sow the seeds of love
You can recline…

Eye am free
From the bondage
Eye am one
within my kingdom

You say you’re hoping to find
All the love in the world
Waiting to hear the chimes
Ringing in the new world
(of love…)
The new world
(of love…)
But the Sun King
carries out…
His Word…
